“Sprout” is a 20 page small comic with 17 pages of watercolour illustrations and 320 words. It will be printed A5 sized with a glossy cover and uncoated inside pages.
It’s about a young teenage girl with the unusual name Sprout. Everything in her life is normal and boring, until one day she wakes up to a sprout on her head! She tried everything to remove it but in the end she has to face it and brave the world (aka school) with her new green friend, quite happily growing from the crown of her head.
The moral of this very simple comic is to be yourself. When you are growing and hit your teenage years, fitting in can be very hard. You can try and change yourself to be like the other kids, have interests that doesn’t really interest you, clothes you don’t like.. only to be accepted into a certain group of people. But in the end you will grow, and you will learn and maybe one day feel ok with who you are and what you have to offer to the world.
The zine was created over short span of time and allowed me to be loose with the drawings. Sometimes it is just nice to not have to make everything “perfect” and clean. Watercolour allows me that freedom! Hope you will enjoy my rough, sketchy illustrations! And also, hopefully the story <3
The whole book was created in a pink pig sketchbook with a hb pencil, brown coloured pencil and Schmincke Horadam watercolours.
